The Oishi Experience

The other night I went to Oishi with my friends for dinner. Its located in West Lafayette, right on the other side of River Road.  If you know where  the River Market Apartments are, it’s in that same building. I was a little skeptical about going there because I have not heard the best things about the restaurant. It was definitely an experience to say the least. I went there with four other people and the only table that they had for us to sit at was basically a plastic folding table. It was not very comfortable, and it was obvious that it didn’t fit in with the rest of the decor in the restaurant.

One of my biggest pet peeves is having to wait for a long time for service, and boy did we wait. I would say it took about 30 minutes for them to just take our drink orders, let alone greet us at all.  It felt like this dinner experience just dragged on. They took forever to bring our drinks, then another ridiculous amount of time to take our orders.  It’s not a place I would go to if you are in a hurry to eat. It then took about another 20 minutes for them to bring out our food, one person at a time, mind you.  Usually I wouldn’t have too much of a problem waiting, I don’t have a problem having a relaxing meal, but the atmosphere was uncomfortable, so it didn’t make waiting enjoyable.

The one upside of the dinner was the food. It was pretty good, and the portion size was filling. Also, I don’t think the prices were too bad. It depends on what you order. It cost me 7.50 for soft noodles with chicken, which had tons of vegetables with it as well.  I enjoyed my dinner, but I know some of my friends were not as impressed. I might consider ordering out from there, since they have delivery, but I doubt I would spend time waiting in the restaurant again.

Wrap Up: (out of 5)

Atmosphere: 3 (tables were uncomfortable)

Price: 3 (not bad for the portion size)

Service: 2 (very slow)

Food : 3(decent quality and flavorful)

Overall: 2.75 (slow service, but decent food options)
